Fashion Show News by JOHNSTONS OF ELGIN : On Friday 15th February 2019, Johnstons of Elgin presented its Autumn Winter 19 collection to the world’s fashion press in the beautiful surroundings of One Marylebone. The brand continues to lead the way in cashmere and fine woollens for year-round wear and this Autumn Winter sees Johnstons of Elgin at its finest. Alan Scott, Creative Director, was inspired by the 1920s and 30s - the golden age of empire and travel – and the long history of this iconic brand which dates back to 1797.

20 womenswear and 10 menswear looks, each meticulously crafted in Scotland, were showcased. A vibe of stylish effortlessness with soft sportswear and easy, ultra-luxury, fashion was created with new and exclusive fabrications. Double-face matte cashmere, merino lightweights and cashmere velour are recurring features throughout. Art deco references, jewel tones and glittering gold cashmere yarns appear alongside cubist colour blocks. A number of show stopping pieces – a maxidress with balloon sleeves, wide palazzo trousers and a blanket-style scarf all in 100% cashmere - feature an oversized, bold motif taken from a retro aviation print. In contrast, a jumpsuit made from extra fine merino wool in ‘slate’ demonstrates Scott can create drama with the use of a single hue. Flashes of tartan, in exploded designs, nod to Johnstons of Elgin’s proud Scottish origins.

The Johnstons of Elgin label displays exquisite craftsmanship, including intarsia hand knitting, alongside state-of-the-art technology such as 360° digital printing in knitwear. The stunning textiles have all been developed and woven in the company’s mills in Elgin and Hawick.

Alan Scott says, ‘Johnstons of Elgin has retained its reputation for quality, artistry, innovation and design for over two centuries. These pillars are at the very heart of what we do on a day to day basis and are demonstrated year-round. To be able to show our skill and expertise on a global platform continues to be an absolute honour.’
